Modifying PhysXVehicle

I made a change to a cpp file in

/Engine/Source/ThirdParty/PhysX3/PhysX_3.4/Source/PhysXVehicle/src

I ran

./Setup.sh && ./GenerateProjectFiles.sh && make

but my changes were not picked up.

In fact I can make a change that should force a compilation error, but the make still succeeds, so there must be some other build step that will rebuild this. What is this step?

we tried something similar, but failed. We tried to modify the PhysX code as well, but did not find a solution. We also tried to build the static libs (.a) and the dynamic (.so) separately in PhysX and then load them into the Unreal Engine before the build process. This did not work either.
Our last status was that these libraries are not built at all, they are only downloaded during the Setup.sh process. I would be very interested if you would share your progress.
